Hello,
This is a strange question, but my fiance and I are getting married Sept. 1st, 2006 in Cessina near Montebenichi. We are in need of a an officient who speaks English and Italian. We are non donominational but would like our ceremony to have a symbolic and spiritual feel. We are having a civil ceremony in our own country prior to coming to Italy, so no paper work is needed, rather we just need more of an actor (although we would prefer someone from the church) as the wedding in Italy is where we really think of ourselves as getting married as it will be in front of our family/friends. We are having a garden wedding with approx. 50 guests. We would preferably like to have someone close to the area to large expenses as we are from Canada and our dollar has little value compared to the euro.

Can anyone help?
Thanks.

If "your church" is catholic you are probably going to be out of luck. However, a dear friend of mine is the pastor of the only baptist church in Rome. E mail me and I'll send you his e mail. He might be able to connect you with a pastor in that part of Italy.

If Episcopalians are good, you could try to contact someone at St. James church, via Rucellai, Firenze.

The baptist church in Florence is in Borgo Ognissanti 4. Worship is in Italian and the pastor, Mr. Raffaele Volpe, is from Naples. I am not sure if he speaks English, but his wife should.

A side observation: the concept of being "nondenominational" is quite extraneous to the Catholic way of thinking, and so even to the Italian way of thinking. I would not spend time looking for a Catholic priest, as what you are asking is completely out of the Catholic use. So you are stuck with non Catholic denominations. I have already referred to the Episcopalian and Baptist church in Florence; I could advice also the Anglican church in via Maggio.

A list of non-Catholic congregations in Florence is at

You've said you are non-denominational, but have you ever been associated with a particular denomination that you might have a connection with?

I didn't see a Unitarian congregation on the list provided, that would have been your best bet if one existed. Looking at the list, I'd guess that your chances are pretty slim with any having the word "evangelical" in their name.

Of the ones I am familiar with, my guess is you'd find the American Episcopal most accommodating. They will, however, most likely insist that both of you be baptized Christians before they'll consider doing the service.

So the existence of a religious affiliation is not really of any consequence. Why not support a local struggling actor, of which I am sure there are many?

Read through the link that itarchivarius provided for St. James' church - it probably answers many of your questions.

Wow, thanks everyone for such great info.
I appreciate it. I have looked into St. James, and it is going to be a bit expensive for us. I like the idea of an actor, but have no idea where to look for someone that would be interested as well as provide the meaning we are looking for.

Any other input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone!!!
