There is an on-line magazine, Firenze Spettacolo, in Italian, but which gives up to date information on what's going on in Florence. There's a pulldown menu in the upper left corner (scegli la selezione) where you can see Cinema.

Ellie, If you're going to be in Florence in the summer there is a wonderful outdoor movie theater, Chiardiluna, in the Oltrarno on via Monteuliveto. Films are shown in several other outdoor venues, including Piazza Santo Spirito. Carol's suggestion of Firenze Spettacolo is a good one; you can also pick up a copy of the magazine, which has more listings than the on-line version, at any newstand in Florence. Fiesole has an outdoor theater in which films are shown, Estate Fiesolana is the website, but I'd be surprised if anything is yet posted for this summer. Back to Florence, there is a really nice, old fashioned movie house under the loggia at Piazza della Republica, near the Edison bookshop. The cinema in Piazza Strozzi is also nice. The free daily (except for Sunday) papers, Leggo and City have good listings of music, theater and films in Florence. Maureen

Hi Robert, can you help me navigate the site? I went to the English version but can't make head nor tail... What events are outside and how do you find the dates? Thanks Robyn

Robyn --- It's too early to buy tickets for the Maggio Fiorentino performances. I believe that the first day you can buy (at least online) is April 7. Robert --- Could you tell us both which events are outside? I thought most were in the Teatro Comunale.

The Teatri Goldoni, Verdi, della Pergola and Comunale are all indoor venues. Tho only possible outdoor venue that is listed for Maggio Fiorentino is Teatro della Meridiana, which is at the Boboli Gardens, but I know the outdoor venue as Prato della Meridiana. I may just call it by the wrong name. The only concert listed for this venue is the Concerto di Chiusura on June 23. There are many outdoor concerts during the summer that are not part of Maggio Fiorentino. So far nothing is listed on the Comune di Firenze site and the others I just looked at still have the summer 2003 up; it is a bit early. I'll post them as I find them. Maureen

I've collected a list of concerts for Florence, at least for venues that have programs during May. You might want to check the Teatro Verdi (where the Tuscan Orchestra plays), the Chiesa Evangelista Metodista (on Via de' Benci near Santa Croce)where Agimus Arte performs and the Centro Vito Frazzi (don't know where this is). At least those are the ones I've found in my search. You can already buy tickets for performances at the Teatro Verdi.

I found the tourist offices in Florence to be really good about having flyers about concerts and other events in town. they will help with translating those flyers not in English. There are always concerts in an old church not too far from Rinascente store (they are trying to get money to restore the church). In case you do go to the cinema under the loggia close to Piazza della Repubblica (which shows movies in English 2 or 3 days a week) and which I think is called Odeon, buy a Repubblica newspaper the Sunday before so you can cut out the discount coupon! And I liked going because you can sit in a really old fashioned theatre, drink wine while you watch the movie (or eat popcorn) and there is always an intermission even if the movie isn't designed for one.

I believe that church is St. Stefan. Nice folks offering tickets and information almost any time of day that we were around.
