My girlfriend and I have decided to get married in Italy. We'd like to have it in Vernazza, but are having problems finding a wedding consultant. Unlike Florence or Venice (our 2nd choice), Vernazza's small community is making this quite complicated. We're looking for someone to help us with the legal work, deciding on a site, etc. Thanks for your help!!

It is not easy to get married in Italy...but how can I help.
I will be going to the Cinque Terre next week.

Are you planning on getting married in a church ( to be legal you must also get married in city hall I believe)
How many people are coming or is it just the two of you?

I know you have to do a lot of translating of birth certificates, into Italian and all your papers msut be in order months before you get married.
what information have you already gotten?

Pauline,
Here's one more for your page: Italian Dreams I met the woman who runs the business last summer. She told me she started it after planning her own wedding in Italy - she learned so much she decided to share her knowledge and contacts with others (and make money while doing so)!

I stopped by Vernazza yesterday when I went to the Cinque Terre. Are you planning to get married in the church on the main square?
I think you will have to contact the Diocese in La Spezia for permission.

Also for church weddings to be legal, you must also get married in city hall, ( or have it registered)

I think it just needs to be registered. That is what we did. Church wedding on Sunday, registered directly through the church.

One thing about church weddings is that the bride and groom will have to post a wedding notice at their home church. It must stay posted for 2 consecutive Sundays. This is also done at city hall in the area that they are getting married. Most times you will also need to sit for marriage classes. Oh and you will need your baptism certificate (and possibly confirmation but that is not always required).

Ah the joy of getting married in Italy. I wish I had had someone to organize the whole thing for me.

Smart lady! But I tell you, the marriage part was no where as difficult as getting an Italian driver's license. It is still one of my proudest moments!
