Welcome to the board Gio (sorry don't know how to do the accented o). You may want to consider taking out a classified here. You can see these here..

Also, take a minute to review our policies on business postings, here.. We look forward to your continued participation.

Gio, Your email is timely. We are going to Bellagio in early May by train/ferry from Venice. We will then go to Milan. We had planned to go by ferry/train, but I noticed there was a bus direct to the Milan airport which is where we want to go. Would you recommend bus over train? It appears that it would be less of a hassle, but I'm wondering about comfort etc.
Thanks in advance,
Judy

Kim -- are you sure Gio59 means people would have to pay for his help? Sounded to me like he was just offering personal advice since he lives in the area, not as a professional expecting payment. Gio59, please clarify for us.

You know what Sally, your right - I made an assumption. Gio - are you working as a guide or offering some friendly advice? Please, tell us a bit about yourself.

Guess all the recent business talk discussions has skewered my thinking that way.

Bus direct to Malpensa leaves from Menaggio but i certainly recommend it... lot less hassle than ferry - train - bus...

i do work in tourism, as i rent self-catering accomodation, but this offer of help is totally friendly: in the long run if Lake Como benefits from any help i can give to tourists, surely my own business will draw some benefit in the future... beside that, i enjoy being in contact with english-speaking people.

Welcome to SlowTalk, Giò.

The Lake Como area is a popular desitination for our members - it will be nice to have a local person available to help answer travel questions.

(Kim, press Num Lock, then hold down the Alt key and press 149 to make the accented ò!)

Hi gio..

My wife and friends and I (4 total)are thinking about visiting Lago di Como during our trip to Italy this Fall. We would be there in late October and wonder if the weather will be warm enough to enjoy the wonderful scenery, boat travel etc of the area. I was in Belagio for about 2 weeks long ago and think it must be the most beautiful place on earth! Thanks for any advice you can give us about this.

Buona sera Gio, Welcome to the board--stick around here--we can use your input. After 12 trips to Italia, the Lakes are still my favorite destination. See my ad and send me an email with your web site--may come in handy.

Not a question about Lake Como but

When I try to click on Gio59's name to find out more about him, nothing happens. Is this because of the accent, or what? Not having any other problems.

Marian - I'm not having a problem - make sure your pointer turns to the hand w/ the finger (sorry i'm finding that humerous). If it still doesn't work, try for someone else's profile and see if that works, then let me know what happens.

Kim --- It's working for me at school. Will have to try again at home.

Gio --- thanks, but nothing special. I often just check the profile of a new member, as I am a nosy person.

Hi Gio,
Could you give us advice on the best way to get to Laglio, where we'll be staying, from MXP? Do you have any good, simple, inexpensive restaurants you can recommend? Thanks

There's a bus leaving Malpensa airport that will take you directly to Como: 8,30am - 1,30 and 6,30 pm

The morning bus goes all the way to Menaggio so it can drop you off directly in Laglio - the afternoon buses stop in Piazza Matteotti in Como where you will need to change bus and take the normal bus to Menaggio.

As far as restaurants are concerned, i prefer not to reccomend any - i work in tourism and it would not be fair for those restaurants i would not mention.

I truly believe that almost everywhere around Lake Como you will eat well... besides that, there aren't that many restaurants in Laglio: try them all then let me know - or better yet: let us all know on these pages.

Ciao and enjoy your stay on my wonderful lake.

Yes, thankfully, spring is here. I got out and planted my balcony herb garden yesterday, and it looks as if I'll have some daffodils blooming in a day or two.

Re. restaurants around Lake Como, see http://www.straughan.com/italy/restaurants.htm - I am not shy about recommendations!

Ciao Gio,
I will be going on my honeymoon to Bellagio in June and would like to know of some recommendations for some good, romantic places to stay that aren't too expensive. Preferably around the 150-250 Euro range for two people. We are looking at Hotel MiraLago right now...can you give any kind of review on that? Also, do you think we will need a car in Bellagio, or can we get along just fine by foot or by vespa? Thanks!

take a look at the hotel florence. You can get a room overlooking the lake and are right next door to the Grand Hotel Serbelloni where you can nip into for a drink and see how the other half live. The Florence has jazz concerts and is well within your budget. You dont need a car in Bellagio as you can take the excellent ferry system around to many towns on the lake. See a priest for your last rites if your going to take Vespa's! Have fun. Bellagio is special.

no doubt! for a honeymoon: Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni
also: avoid car in Bellagio (but then you will have some limits on things to do and places to see...)
for example:with no car, how could you reach Fox Town in Mendrisio for some incredible shopping in the factory outlets of all major fashion designers? (130 stores... Prada, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Ferragamo, Gucci... ecc. ecc.)with discounts up to 75%!!!
