Hi All
My girlfriend and me are going to get married near Florence in September, and we are looking for something special to do on that day. Hot-air balooning is one of the possibilities, but any other idea will be appreciated.
Thanks
Gregory

Gregory- I assume you've researched the legalities of getting married in Italy? You should contact your own government offices, as well as those of the city you plan on getting married in. I don't know the particulars for an Israeli citizen, but here's the info for Americans.

There's a page on the main SlowTrav website with Italian wedding planner links. Those folks should be able to help you out with any questions or arrangements:

And here's an outfit in southern Tuscany that does hot-air balloon rides:

Hmmm, this is a new take on marriage. The idea is for me scary enough so that ballooning wouldn't be required, but bungee jumping sounds appropriate and can be arranged. Or how about shark hunting, but then you'd need to go to Sardegna or Stazione Centrale in Rome.

Thanks for the advice.
We've already checked the legal issues.
We are not looking for something dangerous, just something special.

Then I think a specially arranged carriage ride to the hilltops somewhere overlooking the city would be very romantic.

I like the carriage idea... to Piazza Michelangelo for sunset would be nice..Champage?
I also think that cocktails at the Villa san Michele on the hills of Fiesole is fabulous..I wouldn't eat there, too expensive for what it is..but again would be a great place for a sunset drink..ok..maybe a light dinner..pasta and dessert!
It is a five stat hotel, ex convent with the facade done by Michelangelo. Was the home of Antonio and Iris Origo before they bought La Foce.
check it out

Decobabe says:

I stared at this and blinked a few times, then found myself laughing until I cried. I'm slow sometimes. Cute, decobabe.

If you want to do something special, depending on what you think special is, you can always find the coach and driver from "A Room with a View." And if you're getting married in Florence and haven't seen RWAV you have no business getting married there. :-)

Felicitations,

The actual coach driver must have made a ton of money from the film, because he stopped driving and opened a postcard stand! razz

Take your girlfriend and jump down suddenly from Ponte Vecchio in Arno (of course if she is able to swim).
Before marriage.
If after she doesn't try to kill you,but to dry, you can marry.

We are going to marry in Pistoia. We decided to go to Venice right after the wedding and to have a romantic evening there.
I tried to arrange the hot balloon ride, but they were already booked.
So we are still open for proposals for Siena - Florence region (for the day before the marriage)
Thank you
