I have really liked the Valpolicella ripossa (ripassa)wines lately. Heavier than Valpolicella with a little residual sweetness but not as BIG as the Amarones....

With a car I would do the Valpolicella. Mazzei, a winery in Negrar di Valpolicella has agrotourismo accomadations, quite nice by reputation but we did not look at them.
