Leslie - We have a similar problem around here with deer over-population. Many, many accidents. I actually had one run right into the side of my car one day, in broad daylight. He got up and ran away, and I incurred a $1500 body shop repair! (next time I'm gonna ask for his insurance card before he runs off!!!)

So you know exactly what I am talking about! I'm so sorry about your car! What a frightening experience! Most people I know don't care or reduce their speed at all - BECAUSE they just take it for granted. I'm OK in daylight 'cause they are mostly asleep and when you do see them, they are usually far off on the side of the road or standing still in a paddock. But at night - they just come out of nowhere!

We were on our way home from a speedway meeting in Mildura. It was dawn, everybody was asleep but me as the driver, I was rolling the windows up and down trying to stay awake and singing silently to myself trying not to wake everybody else up. Up ahead I saw what I thought was a kangaroo sitting squarely in the middle of the road. Since I had already seen a few strange things along the roadside (too much beer, not enough sleep), I convinced myself that I was hallucinating. And -- BANG! It was a real kangaroo. That, of course, woke everybody up. We got out and looked and unfortunately she was dead. She had a joey in her pouch. It had a skinned foot, but otherwise none the worse for the wear. We took it out and sat it over in the bush. It was a good sized joey. The radiator was smashed and our water was limited. It was miles and miles between towns. We stopped at every water hole and when those ran out, the guys all had to stand and pee into the radiator. It was an agonizingly long trip home to Sydney. Leslie, your kangaroos look much happier! Oh, by the way, congrats on 1000+!

"Are they gone?" "Yep, the coast is clear." "Great, who's got the eggnog?"
