Hi

I found this video of the view from the top of Burj Dubai, the world's tallest building http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eU5QpFZAfo . I was in Dubai in May and the building is really amazing as it completely dwarfs the surrounding buildings. I think it is due to open in 2010 and there will be a public viewing platform if I' not mistaken on the 124th floor or something like that ;-)

Whew, not for the weak of stomach! I would probably be one to admire it from the ground.

The guy says, "it wobbles terribly..." or something to that effect - yikes!!!! I'm not sure I'd make it to the observation deck.

Well, if I'm that far up in the air, I want to be seeing the runway under my wheels!

I don't think I would feel comfortable going to sleep with the building moving "under my feet".

I just read an interesting article regarding the tower. It is closed to the public! Just a month after opening. It is not clear according the article why it has closed. It mentions a couple of potential reasons. It sounds like they want to reopen it soon. It was interesting to know how much the ride to the observation tower - $27US - but they have an option where you can jump to the front of the line if you want to pay $110. Eek

Burj Dubai closed

I also read about this and I was also a bit shocked to read the prices for Burj Khalifa - but that is Dubai for you. As long as you got the money you can buy more or less everything and they are aiming for visitors with lots of money :-) But it is a bit worrying that they haven't given a proper reason why they are closing the observation deck.

Earlier this week, the San Francisco Chronicle published this article; apparently there was a major problem with the elevator, and some visitors were stuck between floors, and others stranded for a time on the observation platform.

Scary!
