Hello all -
Sorry that it's taken me so long to get to this. Our wonderful contest kept me too busy the last few weeks to focus on the ST book club!

But now "I'm back" Smile and it's time for us to vote on a name. Listed below are the entries; I'd like each of you to vote for your favorite. We have too many choices to use the ST poll option, but will use that feature if we have a tie or a close vote.

Post your vote (by letter and/or name) in this thread.

Voting will be open until Monday night (Pacific Time).

Slow Travel Book Club name choices:
  • A. The Concentric Reading Circle
  • B. Book Groupees
  • C. Book Flights
  • D. Loose Pages
  • E. Between the Covers
  • F. Beneath the Covers
  • G. Paperback Heroes
  • H. Slow Pages
  • I. The Bookies
Thanks, everyone!

Read how the club started

Check out our reading list

First meeting January 22 @5:30pm PST

New members always welcome. Smile

My vote goes to: A. The Concentric Reading Circle.

(If we were voting for second choices, I'd select "Book Flights" - which I totally didn't "get" until the 4rd or 5th time I read it! lol Doh )

Some good ideas. My vote, too, goes to A - Concentric Reading Circle.

Thanks, Colleen for all your work on this.

Colleen,

Is there a reason this isn't a poll? And BTW it was Book Groupees. Smile

Sorry Colleen, I guess in all the excitement yesterday I forgot how to read. Blushing I'm having a hard time choosing. I like the Concentric Reading Circle because it's very clever and reminds me of my favorite book, The Blind Assassin, but I also like The Loose Pages Book Club. Hmmmm, I'll go with CRC. Thumbs Up Thanks for all your hard work in putting this together.

I like CRC, but also like Book flights. I like using the acronym, CRC--like an airport code.

Concenric Reading Circle...because of Pauline's Concentric Circles travel philosophy, and because it doesn't favor any one country or book genre.

What kind of politician would I be if I didn't vote for myself? My vote goes to --- The Bookies. Happy

As a retired politician, I know the value of going with the flow, and I also know the internal thrill of striking out on your own, standing apart from the crowd, so to speak Big Grin

So, although CRC will likely be the name, looking at the votes in already, my choice is Between The Covers...'cause that's where all the good stuff really happens! CRC is a great name as well, so either will keep me happy...

Actually, I love Between the Covers too.
CRC is my second choice though, so either would be great with me! I'm looking forward to the Book Chat.

I like the idea of a name that ties with Slow Travel, so I'd go with either Concentric Reading Circle (A - first choice) or Slow Pages (H).

I tend to be a speed reader, so maybe Slow Pages isn't that descriptive, though I have to say that I did move unusually slowly through All She Was Worth. (Or maybe too distracted by the contest?!)

I like Slow Pages because it ties in with Slow Travel and is short and easy say/type. Concentric Reading Circle, I fear, will end up getting abbreviated most of the time. I'm not sure what my second choice would be, maybe Book Flights, because it's so clever.

Speaking of not getting it, concentric circles don't ever meet up or go anywhere. What am I missing?

I like "Book Flights" also because of the double meaning.

HappyBook Flights...
NOW, I get it! ...double-Doh Doh
I love this one!
I've been pondering it for a couple of days and only when reading Kathy's post, did my nimble mind open its door and accept this clever idea! Who came up with this brilliant one? Martini

if it be good it cannot last too long;
if bad, you cannot get rid of it too early."

Thanks, everyone - this was a tough choice, wasn't it?

But it looks like The Concentric Reading Circle (or CRC) received the most "first choice" votes. Thanks to Deborah for coming up with a meaningful SlowTrav name. Maybe we can get you a couple of the new luggage tags or a baseball cap or something. Smile

Thanks also to Nancy (ciaofornow) for making us all work for "Book Flights!" Very clever.

For those of you who haven't read Pauline's theory of concentric circle travel, take a look. It's a great planning tool.

Aha! Thanks, Colleen for pointing to the explanation of concentric circles. Now it makes sense.

See you all at the chat.
