One of the French tv channels shows "Hell's Kitchen" and not only overdubs it in French (keeping the original soundtrack on a fainter register) but also edits "clean" (read non-profane) French into Gordon Ramsey's mouth, which is a hoot and a half.
On one episode I distinctly heard GR say "f--k it", which was overdubbed as "laisse tomber".

But I see the dilemma. If one were to take out all the f-words that the celeb chef utters, the show would be half as short.

So, AinP, would saying "laisse tomber" be akin to saying "drop it," as in "let's just drop the subject," or "you need to drop the subject"?

"Drop it" is a good translation; I prefer "forget it".
Quite off Gordon Ramsey's champ sémantique, wouldn't you say … ?

Yeah. We ate in his flagship London restaurant a few years ago. VERY expensive, quite good, but there were tables of smokers - yuck! And his TV persona is pretty unattractive...
