A possible candidate could have been the Mont Blanc Hike that Robert Rainey did recently or even just any stroll in the center of any city could develop into an useful resource with less work required by the poster.
More and more mobile phones are widening their technical resources and lowering prices.
Just tried a google search with mobile phone gps ftp cam
The devices are there yet.

Wow. This looks like a cool idea for those who can afford the GPS technology.
I'd love it if someone were to develop some Everytrail tours of the many x-country ski trails that we have up here in the Laurentians region of Quebec, or in Vermont, Maine, etc.
