I was very impressed with the new iLife 08 demo. There have been significant changes in iPhoto (for the better) and iMovie has also been changed quite a bit to make it much easier to edit a movie. I have just been reading a thread on dpreview and they also give the new iPhoto a big thumbs up.

I am still undecided if I like the looks of the new iMac. I have read lots of good and bad reviews. Although most that have seen the new iMac's in person have been pretty impressed with them. I am in desperate need of a new computer but will try to hold off until the first revisions come out so that all the bugs will be worked out. Would love to hear from anyone that does buy one.

Just stopped by an Apple store today and saw the new iMacs. I like the computer and the keyboard, but I'm not sure about the glossy screen. In the store it does have a lot of reflection, but I don't know if it would be so bad on a desk without all those bright lights all around.

Mike says he might get one, but he is going to wait until after October, when Leopard (the new OS) is due to be released. Might as well get that as part of the package.

I would like a new laptop, but I wish Apple would come out with a smaller and lighter one. I love my G4 12" PowerBook -- just the right size for travel. (At home I use it with an external monitor and keyboard.) But the 13" MacBooks seem just that much too big, and they also seem heavy.

I only looked at iMovie from iLife 08, but it does look very cool. I am afraid it would run pretty slowly on my G4 though, as it seems that it would require a lot of power. I don't think I would get it until I switch to an Intel Mac.

I am also reluctant regarding the screen. I read some interesting threads on iMovie last night in the Apple discussion forum. I guess many people are NOT happy with the iMovie and Apple is now offering a free download of iMovie 06 to anyone purchasing 08. I think some of the basic editing options were removed, including chapters.

I have read rumors of a small laptop in the works. I would love a small laptop which would be easy to travel with.

I also plan to wait until at least leopard comes out (unless my Mac dies on me). I may need to stay away from the Apple store in order to wait though.

Just looked at the new iMovie: Hard to tell. I wish they'd quit messing with the stuff on it that works, and instead mess with the stuff that doesn't.

Roz I know what you mean, I haul around a 17" powerbook and have just about dislocated my shoulder (but I still love the darn thing).

I like the looks of the new iMac, but I have a relatively new computer, so I won't be getting one anytime soon. I'll check out the demo of iLife 08... I love iMovie, so I hope the new one isn't too different.

It does look nice on the screen, but I didn't spend any time with it looking at the details. Since then I've been reading more about this too, and seeing the same type of comments about missing features. People are calling it iMovie for Dummies, and saying that it is a ploy by Apple to get people to buy the more expensive editing program, Final Cut.

I watched the demo and I think I agree - it looks like a simplified version of the old iMovie. I guess they figured that people who wanted more features could use Final Cut Express, the less expensive version of Final Cut. But I really liked the old iMovie! I guess I'll have to try it and see how I like the new one...
