One of the things that I like about iTunes is downloading TV shows. I can watch a season that I missed or just watch the current season by downloading. You pay for this - $1.99/episode. Sometimes shows come to iTunes before they go to DVD. We watched Season 3 of Battlestar Gallactica from iTunes months before it was out on DVD.

NBC (they own the SciFi channel) will not longer have shows on iTunes. It looks like NBC wanted to double the price for downloading episodes.

Here are a few articles about it.

CNN Money: NBC to pull shows from iTunes

CNN Money: Why the networks don’t need iTunes

Apple to NBC: Drop Dead

NBC has started a new site for downloading TV shows - www.hulu.com .

An annoucement today that Amazon Unbox is going to sell NBC TV shows (like iTunes did before). You can purchase them the day after the show airs. The price is the same as what it was on iTunes - $1.99/episode.

I have used Amazon Unbox and you can download to any computer on your network or right to your TIVO. They gave me a $15 credit, so I downloaded a movie and a TV series to my computer. You can also rent them - I downloaded one to my TIVO and it stayed there for a month and then disappeared.

Previously if you were in Europe, you could not purchase iTunes TV shows, but an article came out recently saying they were now for sale in England - but for much more (1.99 pounds - they must be using the Pauline method of exchange rate pretending 1 dollar equals 1 pound). I am sure there was a way to get around this and purchase from the US iTunes.

I wonder if people in the UK can download from Amazon.com Unbox?

LINK to Amazon.com UnBox - link to UnBox is on the left column, towards the top of the list, under "Books, Music and Movies".

I looked into this and they do not. We are viewing the UnBox programs on my computer. It would be nice to be able to move them to the iPod - but they are from a competing company. You can transfer UnBox videos to other video players - and maybe someone will write a program to translate them to iPod format.

I was interested in Amazon Unbox, until I read about their terms of service on Boing Boing

When you sign into the service, you are giving them permission to spy on your computer, your internet connectivity, and anything else they want to know.
quote:
The Software may also provide Amazon with information about your Authorized Device's operating system, software, amount of available disk space and Internet connectivity, such as whether your computer or other device is available online. This information will, among other things, help us deliver Digital Content to you more efficiently and effectively. The Software may also provide Amazon with information about the transfer of Digital Content to portable devices to help us ensure compliance with our rules concerning portable device...

And if you delete the software, they delete your movies...so you don't really own the movies you've paid for.
