Okay, Macca's new album comes out tomorrow and will be available tomorrow, and I'd like to download it if possible.

I think I need a broadband connection, which I don't have...I only have ADSL, and only 2 GB at that. I do however, have a friend with broadband, so maybe she can download it for me.

But....what else do I need to know? If we download it onto a computer, then I'm assuming it can be burned to a disc, right? Anything else?

Barb, I have dial up and download music all the time. It just takes longer. ADSL/Broadband/Etc. all the same in Italy except some are faster (with Fastweb you can get up to 20mb, telecom and the others get about 2mb)

To get the music, personally, I have iTunes and download it through their shop and then either put it on a disk or on my iPod.

Hello again Barb (and Art), Wink

ADSL actually is a form of broadband; the way DSL works is that it utilizes frequencies on a telephone line that aren't used by a regular voice telephone call. But that's just technical mumbo jumbo.

All you need to know is that you should actually have pretty fast download speeds with ADSL, much quicker than dialup. If you are using iTunes, you can purchase the album (assuming it's available through iTunes) directly in iTunes and have it download to your computer. If you'll recall what I wrote to you before, when you download the album in this manner, it will be encoded in Apple's special format (m4a) and will only be able to be played on Apple devices, unless you burn a CD, which you can also do directly in iTunes.

If you need help doing any of this, let me know and I can walk you through it. I do this stuff all the time. Smile

Okay, now I'm getting the picture. They SAY it's simple, but there are so many little things they don't tell you! Thanks for the ADSL explanation!

Since I don't have an Apple computer, I can still download it onto my laptop, then burn it onto a CD, correct??? Is there any way to know how long it will take to download an entire album?

Yes, iTunes itself is compatible with both Apple and Windows computers, for all of its functions. So yes, you will be able to burn CDs with no problems after you download the album.

Depending on the length of the album, it should take less than 10 minutes to download fully. I'm also on DSL on my home computer, and downloading albums usually takes about that long for me.
