The 9V "switching adaptor" for our Altec-Lansing portable audio system died, and the company replaced the whole unit -- great customer service. The new system has a 13V "switching power supply," and I'd like to know if it's safe to use it with the old unit. The A-L technical support staff couldn't give me an answer I trust -- they basically said I "could" ruin it but that it wasn't likely. Can someone help me out?

A 9V would output 9V. A 13V would output 13V.

Unless the device can handle a range of voltage it's not a good thing to use the wrong one.

You might try Radio Shack and see if they have any generic 9V type of units.

Thank you both for the help. I'll definitely try Radio Shack or maybe Amazon. You know, I used the switching adaptor of the computer in our apartment in Rome in May, when mine stopped working. I'm sure it was a higher voltage, and nothing happened. Would the problem be gradual, or would it "blow" all at once? Thanks again for the help.
