I am dictating this as we speak. I just installed, after nightmarish customer service screw ups, MacSpeech Dictate, a new voice recognition program for Macs. After about 15 minutes of voice training, the thing works like a champ. I even read some gnarly pages from Companion Guide to Rome, and I was amazed at the accuracy: got Bernini, capitalized Baroque, but totally lost it on Pamphili.
this program is for Intel-based Macs, OS X.4.11, or Leopard. 1 gb of ram. (I typed this line)
I had to go by a new microphone, as the chintzy one days provided just didn't work.
This convinces me even more that there is a very smart, very small little man living inside my iMac.

This reminds me of Kevin Kling's The Dog Says How where his voice recognition software translates his dog barking as "How how how" and his cat meowing as "Why why why" making the pets philosophers.
There's a whole gang of smart wee people in my iMac, but they left an idiot in charge of Time Machine
I still don't know what the problem is, mainly since I haven't devoted any time to figuring it out, but the second day I had it working it seemed just to keep hanging. So I switched it off.
I probably jumped the gun complaining about it since I haven't really used it much yet--I need to buy a new external drive and start it up fresh.
