I thought this would be a cool way to say money on phone calls when traveling to other countries but wasn't sure of the reliability. I currently use GSM phones but i'm always looking to cut down on phone costs when I'm abroad. Anyone ever used this service with Vonage? If you have how does it work if you are in a wifi area operated by a different cellular network? Please share your thoughts.
Dear TTG, We are in Italy and using Vonage, Vodafone & TIM...sort of a comparitive excursion. We also have a World Access phone card but decided to leave that out of the picture. We are comparing UMTS internet services with Vodafone & TIM as well as both their SIM card phone services VS Vonage. The Vonage works fine. All calls to Italy (except cell phones) & the U.S. (including cell phones) are free!
We had to call Vonage to have them upgrade the sound quality. After that the sound is great. The voice mail is great...you can leave a 10 minute message if you want! Copies of the voice mail are sent to your e-mail! We highly recommend Vonage as a way to communicate for very low cost while in Italy. Regards Martha
FYI When we returned from Europe & cancelled our Vonage service we were pleasantly surprised to learn they will refund full charges because we cancelled before 30 days from setup.
