Do you mean the Garmin IQue 3600
What do you mean it does not "read it"?
It is probably an SD memory chip.
Where did you get the chip? Are you sure it is compatible with the IQue 3600?
From what I read on the Garmin site, the only maps that can be loaded on the GPS are the ones that come on CD ROM. There is no mention of maps on SD memory. You would be able to add a blank SD memory chip and it should allow you to load more map regions.
The MetroGuide CD ROM will be the cheapest. You can find Metro Europe for $50 on Ebay. But MetroGuide does not allow routing on the GPS, only the PC. With extra 3rd party software you can get routing to work on the GPS. I used Metroguide and the special software in Italy last year and it worked great.
City Navigator will allow routing on the GPS, out of the box but it will be more expensive. Maybe $100 on Ebay.
IMHO rechargeable GPS devices are the wrong way to go. I don't want to be worried about charging the device or the battery dying when I need it the most. I would rather be able to pop in a fresh set of AA batteries.
