Hello,

I have been planning a winter trip to Italy for some time now, but I finally hunkered down and bought my plane tickets. Within a few months I will be visiting the place that I have wanted to see since I was a child. It will be my first journey outside of the continental United States, and I am very much looking forward to this adventure. I have been reading through old threads trying to obtain as much info as I can from all the travelers who have passed through this site, or are still here, but I do have additional questions that I've yet to find answers to. So with that, I am going to go post one of them now. I'm glad to have found this place!

Welcome to Slowtrav, Prospero!
You definitely have come to the right place...I was where you are a few years ago, having never traveled to Europe and really never thought I would be able to do it. I'd always wanted to travel there, but lacked the know-how and the courage to just do it.

The people on this site gave me every possible kind of encouragement and all the advice and help they had to offer, and I made my first trip in 2005.

Since then, I've been back to Rome, Venice and Santarcangelo in 2006, as well as just arriving home from Paris and London a couple of weeks ago.

So there's no telling where you'll be traveling after you've been hanging around with these folks for a few weeks!

Welcome again, enjoy, read, ask questions...we're here to help!

Ask away. You will be absolutely amazed at the depth of the knowledge of the members of SlowTrav.

I went to Italy in June 2004 with a Study Abroad group. I planned to be gone 5 weeks and really learn the language while I was there. Well, long story short, I broke my ankle and was home within a week. However, that gave me time to plan my trip for November of that year with my daughter and SIL. Since I was laid up with the broken ankle, I had nothing to do but surf the internet and voila! I found Slow Trav. I planned our entire November trip thanks to the wonderful help of all on the SlowTrav site. My daughter and SIL still think I should go into the travel business since I did such a great job on our trip.

However, I just can't take all the credit. Blushing
