I'm Laura and am new to the board. My roommate from graduate school (Andrea V) introduced me to this website when we were planning our trip to Europe in 2005. She did all the looking and typing, but now it's my turn! I'm going to Rome in August (I know, hot), with my husband for our official honeymoon. We got married at the end of May and didn't have time for one then due to my work contract in VA and his work in Texas (Army). I'm moving to Texas to be with him in a few weeks and then we are headed to Rome in August. I'm very excited! He hasn't been and I can't wait to go back. I have read and heard people say that once you start traveling abroad, you will find a way to go back again and again. I never thought I would get to go back and here I am, planning my second trip!
I let Andrea plan the trip last time, though we discussed where to go and my interests so to be sure she included them if she wasn't interested (i.e. going to Athens in July!--so hot, but I'm glad I got to go).
Any and all advice would be appreciated. We already have a place to stay (a B&B near the Vatican, west), and plane tickets. I have Rick Steve's Rome 2008 because my roomie and found it informative on our last trip...we just saw the book in the bookstore, looked through it and found it easy to read, so we took a chance with it. We also used walking tours for different sights and enjoyed them (Enjoy Rome). I think my husband and I might use them because they are more in our price range and can't seem to find any others that are within our budget. (And if I do find one, I'm worried they won't be good because I haven't used them before and don't know who has...)
Well, off to do some more research!

Welcome to Slow Travel, Laura, congratulations, and best wishes for a happy honeymoon.
If you have any questions related to the planned trip, the best place to post them is in the Italy forum, where they will have the greatest visibility.
