Hello everybody.

My name is Chris Welsch, and I'm the travel reporter with the Minneapolis Star Tribune. I'm working on a story about slow travel -- I want to get the word out about the movement to my readers here. Anyone in the forum from my neck of the woods?

I have long advocated for this type of travel (my last story was about going on retreat, which is slower than slow), but until i started working on this story i didn't realize that a movement has sprung up around the concept. It gives me hope.

Cheers
cw

Hi Chris - welcome to Slow Travel Talk!

We do have some members from Minnesota - 'dragonpat' from St. Paul post regularly on the Italy forum about her onsite research on ancient Rome and Romans.

Regarding getting the word out ... just today, Slow Travel founder Pauline Kenny posted a link to an MSNBC article on money saving travel ideas that references SlowTrav.

Looking forward to your participation on the forums!

Colleen

Hi Chris,

It seems to me that there are a lot of nice people in your home state- some of which I have met here as guests - who would find the Slow Travel experience right up their alley. I should not generalize, but Minnesotans are, as a rule in my experience, open minded to new experiences, enjoy breathing the fresh air (all those Scandianvian genes !! ) and taking in nature.

Please feel free to ask away about traveling slow and the benefits which can be derived from it.

Hi Chris,
I also hail from Minneapolis. While not an expert, I am a "slow traveler" and use this website on a regular basis. Feel free to ask any questions!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Myranda, could you shoot me an email? I would love to chat with you on the phone in the next couple of days about how the slow travel idea works out in your trips. (welsch@startribune.com). any other minnesotans out there, please write! i need stories!

meantime, i'm enjoying reading the forums. My next trip is to Puerto Morelos, Mexico, where my wife and i will be based for two weeks. she's teaching a yoga workshop for a week (at a small hotel), then we're going to rent an apt. or condo. i'll check for a mexico discussion.
