MaryV welcome to Slow Travel! My niece was in Rome (Ariccia) for a semester with Auburn and we took advantage of the chance to visit. It was great fun, and you will have plenty to do while she is studying away. Check out the Italy section for tons of info on B&B and apartments that you can rent, day trips, and things to do. i would check out rentalinrome.com, the area you speak of between the pantheon and st peters is a 15 walk or short bus ride..i lived in rome and would stay within the historic area triangle-pza navona,pantheon-campo dei fiori..walking distance to everything you would need.read the info on this site at your leisure..buon viaggio
