Hi all -

I've heard about this website for a while... but never took the time to come peruse. I'm glad to see that I've been following the slow travel style for a while, without knowing that's what it was called.

My current obsession is planning my first European trip in over 6 years - I've had 2 kids in the last 6 years... which kept us closer to home - one trip to Mexico, the rest around the states.

This spring (2007) we're planning a 19 day trip - a few days in Rome, then taking a train to Taormina for 6 days. (I've never been south of Rome, but my husband has cousins there.) Then taking a train to Florence where we settle into a house outside Greve for a week. I've already started managing my expectations because I know that with a 4 year old and 6 year old, the Uffizi is out.

Anyway - greetings to San Diego and I look forward to learning & getting advice from this community.

Katie

Welcome to ST, Katie.

Taormina .. WOW! Just loved it there when we went earlier this year. Unfortunately, the visit wasn't part of our slow travel (we did 12 weeks by rail throughout Italy and Europe).

We visited Taormina as part of a day's port of call on a cruise. The only cruise we have ever done and decided that we weren't 'cruising people.'
Therefore Taormina is on our list for our next sloooow travel holiday.

Good luck and have fun.
