Hi everyone, I must be one of the real slow travellers, I like many others who respond to travellers questions, I travelled and I stayed. Now when I go home to Australia I feel like a tourist and have just as much fun as I can.
My family and I moved to Italy in 2000 and after nearly 6 years in the small village of Citerna, have moved to the nearby, larger town of Sansepolcro in eastern Tuscany.
Since moving here I have revitalised my career as a photo journalist.
We have many family and friends pass through having a wonderful time and both my husband Marius and I get a great buzz out of other people's delight in travelling in Italy.
We are constantly sightseeing ourselves and I have found a lot of great tips on the site. The travel logs are fascinating. My mother would have loved it, she travelled extensively and came home with so many photos and postcards. She held slides in the local church hall and I had the job of making sure they were all the right way up in the carousel and in the right order as she read her diaries in a broad Aussie accent to the assembled mob. Photos of Japan, the States, Turkey and of course Italy. When she passed, she left a little money and you know where I ended up.
Congratualtions to the organisers of this site. Well done! I am glad to participate.
Way to go! You are living the dream! I was stationed in Vicenza for 18 months in 1968-1969 and fell in love with Italia & have looked for a way to return with a business to keep me there for a few years ever since. Thanks for coming aboard & I understand how your mom would have enjoyed this site.

Thanks for the welcoming messages from everyone. It is really nice to feel part of a new community. That is what life is all about here in Italy, a sense of community.
I am originally from Sydney and also lived in the 4 years before our move to Italy, in Sorrento, about an hour and a half south of Melbourne. We lived about 5 minutes walk from the ocean in one direction and another five in the other direction brought you to Port Phillip Bay. We lived in the area that most people dream about, but I am very fair and couldn't go to the beach much during the day. I taught painting, but there was something missing. Now we know it was the deep sense of culture that we have here in Italy. Also we are constantly challenged to rethink our role in life, in the world and in history. I love it and so does my family.
