My name is Lele, I'm Italian (easy lads: it's my parents' fault, not mine) and I've been visiting this website a number of times recently.
I liked the community and I thought that maybe if I behave and I promise I didn't vote for Berlusconi, then maybe the folks here would welcome me.

Also, I reckoned that Alexander Reed’s “20-point Guide to travelling and surviving in Italy” here http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/general/ar_surviving.htm (Geezus....) called for a comment.

In particular, he forgot to add that women, notoriously, have moustache, that men of all ages have a picture of their mama on the bathroom mirror in order to say “good morning” to her as they shave singing opera and that showers have been introduced into the country just a couple of years ago.

And this goes to prove his # 19: Italians are not afraid to make fun of themselves.

Unlike Brits, as it were. Wink

Welcome Lele! What area of Italy do you live in? Look forward to your input (love a sense of humour!).

Enjoy!

Hi Chris.
I’m from Romagna, the area roughly between Bologna and Rimini. Not as famous and popular as Tuscany and Umbria, I concede. But if you move away from the coast – the biggest tourism highlight, where hordes of people cram the beaches in summer - and hit the hilly countryside, you’ll find places and towns that aren't less beautiful than those that can be found in our more illustrious neighbours.

Welcome Lele,

I LOVE Bologna and what I've seen of ER. We are returning for our second trip in September. You live in a wonderful region with the BEST food anywhere!

Enjoy this wonderful community! I look forward to your posts about your area!

Yep, definitely.
Anyway, I'll do my best to let those who are interested know that Italy's not just Tuscany and Umbria - however charming (even by my standards) they might be.

Lele, that comment just made me giggle out loud!
When SlowTalk started eight years ago, there were just a few of us Umbrian fanatics on the boards who were constantly saying: "Italy is not just Tuscany!"
Now I wish Umbria was still undiscovered. Wink

Lele and Deborah... and I think Piemonte is next to be discovered, which means Bolgna cannot be far behind!

Welcome Lele. I too, like the humor, but think the Brits are quite self-deprecating and therefore charming.

Piemonte's on my list for our next visit. Also, I'm reading that Puglia is ratcheting up it's tourism a notch or two, due to some ongoing industrial expansion. "The Heel Has Appeal!" So many places so few US dollars.
