Welcome to Slow Travel, MarcoAntonio! We'll be looking forward to your input and information on Slow Travel and hope that, in turn, Slow Travel will be a good information source for you.
Thanks Doru, actually this web site is a pleasant place.
Hello Christine! I'm glad you'll visit Italy next May! I live part of the year in Vicenza (not very far from Venice) and part in Florence.
Ciao!

Just thought to do something different next year then I will return to italy again. Since 2001 I have visited italy every year. My last trip was back in April this year for a month. How long you would like to stay in Sydney and what month you are thinking of visiting? I am sure you will get lots of tips about Sydney from this cool site. Do you have friends or family in Sydney? Ciao!
I'm glad to read that you love coming here often. Italy isn't a large country, but there is a incredible concentation of places to see. Just drive few Km in every directions and you find interesting places telling a story thousands years old.
What places did you like most? What places would you like to visit next year?
I've been thinking to visit Sydney for a long time. My uncle lived there many years ago. Probably I could be there next year in October.
Ciao!

Hello MarcoAntonio, We'll be in bella Italy the 1st of March. We take a cruise on Costa, and then spend 5 days in Rome. This time we're bringing our grandchildren, ages 11 & 13. Italy is so wonderful and I know they'll enjoy everything. We hope to take a day trip to Venice. We'll have 6 hrs to sightsee. We'll ride the waterbus, and go to San Marco square and whatever else we can squeeze in. I'm going to bring boots because I've seen pictures of flooding. Please send me any ideas you might have that would be special for the children. Does the belltower have an elevator? Ciao, Elenore
Hello Elenore, I'm sure that your grandchildren will enjoy visiting Rome and Venice!
Yes, the belltower in Piazza S. Marco, in Venice, has an elevator. You can find here prices information. Moreover, if you'd like to have an idea of the beautiful view, you can watch these videos I found on YouTube: Video1 Video2
Unfortunately carnival period ends on February 20th, and you'll be in Italy on March. During the carneval there are many events that can be special for children.
Anyway, visiting Venice from the water level (riding waterbuses) is the best way to enjoy part of the magical dimension of Venice. The Canal Grande is beautiful. Also consider visiting the Rialto Bridge. Children may also enjoy eating typical venetian cakes. I was told that a famous place is Pasticceria Marchini. It is close to Piazza S. Marco: here is the map.
Ciao!

I agree with you….Driving in italy is interesting because the landscape is changing all the time. I like Tuscany very much…my favourite!! Beside that I like Venice, Rome, Alberobello; I find those Trulli houses very fascinating. Capri Is, Taormina in Sicily. Amalfi coast. My next trip to italy I would like to go back to Venice and Rome again. Plus spend a week or so in Tuscany picking olives plus taking cooking classes. I have never done this kind of things before so I believe it will be quite interesting to do something different. The only place I haven’t yet visited in italy is Sardinia and if I have enough time I would like to go there. October is good time to visit Sydney. How long you would like to stay here? I guess one thing you going to miss here will be the Italian food…….. The best Pizza is in Naples! See ya later
You like really lovely places (btw, I love Capri Island very much!), and you have an interesting plan for your next trip here. In the list of my preferred places there are also Dolomites, and in particular Cortina d'Ampezzo. It's beauiful in every season.
Probably I'll stay in Australia 2 weeks. I'll start planning the trip next month(es).
Ciao!

Hi Marco! Glad that you like Capri Is too. Coming from Pacific the Islands are so different here. I believe Capri is a unique Mediterranean and Romantic Island! I forget to tell you that I like Lake Garda too. Climbing Vesuvius was awesome. Italian Alps is beautiful. I stayed for few days in Courmayeur and climbed Mt Blanc. What are your preferred places in italy? This is your first visit to Australia? Are you going to visit other states too or only visiting Sydney? Two weeks is a short time to visit Australia though. Where abouts you live in italy? Ciao!
yes, we share a love for the beautiful Capri Island! It's really a paradise!

Wow, I guess that you are a very dynamic person. My favourite part of Alps is that of Dolomites.
I live part of the year in Vicenza. It is situated between Verona and Padova, not far from Venice. Btw, these places are famous for beautiful villas. I suggest you to visit them. There is a boat (the Burchiello) that carries tourists from Padova to Venice to visit them (for example Villa Pisani).
I also spend part of the year in Florence. I share with you also love for Tuscany (Siena, San Gimignano...).
I also like Milan. There are many lovely things to see there too (e.g. Duomo, La Sala, Castello Sforzesco,...). But I like it also because it's a very efficient town, very business oriented, with many cultural events.
Yes, next year it will be my first visit to Australia. I still have to plan my trip, but I'd love to visit 2-3 places (Sydney and something else).
Ciao!

Thank you for the cool links and I may think of visiting those places next time. Venice is very fascinating city, I was there two times so far and last time I stayed in Mestre plus visited Lido and Island of Murano too. Siena, San Gimignano is indeed a nice places in Tuscany! Usually I stay in San Gimignano plus I like cortona too which I discovered this time, after seen a movie called “Under the Tuscan Sun”. There is a lot to see in Tuscany. I managed to go to the most southern part……..(heel of italy) the last point. Nothing is really going on there! See two pictures one a sunset in Lido and second one the last point…..heel of italy! I do miss italy! Hope you will enjoy your visit to Australia! See ya around. Ciao

Hello, I'm glad that you love returning in Italy. I'm sure that you'll spend a beautiful spring here.

I'm going to visit Cortona in the next future. Everybody told me it's a nice place. Btw, many people from USA or Australia I meet tell me that they knew about Cortona after seen that movie. I have to see it too then. I'm curious
Ciao!

Hi Leslie, Thanks for sharing the pic with us. I agree with you Cortona is wonderful and I discovered that place after watching the movie “Under the Tuscan Sun”! I hope to visit there again soon. Take care.
Hi Marco, Yes I would suggest you to see the movie………and visit Cortona. If I wouldn’t have seen the movie I guess I would never have considered going to Cortona. There is so much to see in Tuscany and I travel to Italy once a year and stay for two to three weeks only. Ciao
