For some months I've been aware of this community but have not stepped forward from the Lurking posture until now. So, hello. I was starting to say that Michele and I are travelers who... but that isn't quite right; probably more accurate to say we are deliberate wanderers which, in my observation at least, describes most of this bunch. That is, we're less involved with tours and notching our walking-sticks with cities/countries/museums we've racked up (stickers on the old steamer trunk?), than with intentionally putting ourselves into the middle of a culture we want to become comfortable in--but aren't, yet. I do videos and coffee, not always in that order. And attempts at language study. Did anyone ever notice how much easier it is for vocabulary to truly imprint at age 20 than, um, later? Heh.

I love being welcomed. The rules say something about not posting one's website? My impression is that particular rule is more about preventing people from using this forum to promote a business or other personal hobby-horse -- not a flat universal prohibition. I'm wondering about this because my personal site has movies & some commentary about places and impressions from travels over the past few years. Can I let you know where it is? It would be frustrating to get into trouble during my first week among this august bunch...

Yes, you can put a link to your personal webpage in your signature. You can find information about can find information on signatures here. There are some further instructions on adding the html code to your signature. If you have any problems, just post in the How do I forum. The main idea is to keep it 'short' in few lines. Your name and a link to your site is perfect. You can also have a second line to your personal pages here on slow travel when you have reviews, a link to your blog if you have one, and a quote.

Welcome!

I just went to visit your video travelogue website briefly. It's a lot of fun. I enjoyed the footage of the tiny kids learning about farm life, and some of the other clips (Cinque Terre, for one) certainly brought back some memories. Actually I first looked at the 5 Terre clip and was not expecting it to include a musical score -- really punched the sentimental button Smile.

btw, in my browser (IE 6), the locations on the satellite map aren't lined up with their actual coordinates per se... are they supposed to be or is it more or less just symbolic?

I look forward to browsing your video vignettes some more.

Chortle. Hopefully the link-text entries are instructive relative to one another. I'd be surprised if even one of them corresponds to map coordinates . The satellite image wasn't strictly vertical anyway (excuses, excuses). Appreciate the IE6 feedback; I use only Firefox at this point. The intention was less precision than it was an attempt to excite interest in the (for the most part non-traveler) site visitor.
