Hi Railbird! Welcome to Slow Travel! I grew up around harness racers. My great-grandfather was a trainer/driver for so many years he was awarded the Oldest Licenced Driver in Ohio before he "retired". He raced mostly at county fairs around the state. My grandfather and his brother took over the reins (pun intended) and I spent more time than I can remember cleaning stalls, and riding on the sulky with my grandpa around the track during morning jogs. I lost my voice countless times screaming from the sidelines at the fairs! Good times!

Hi Railbird, and welcome to SlowTravel. My husband is a real racing fan, although he prefers the thoroughbreds. On our trip to France last year, while we were in Paris, we visited the St. Cloud racetrack for an afternoon. EVERYTHING was in French, needless to say, but we had a great time, and my husband even placed a few wagers, too. My husband goes up to Saratoga every summer, too, for the annual meet.
