Going to Venice, ViaReggio, Sorrento and Rome. Any suggestions, recommendations would be apreciated. Mainly...were going to rent a car while in ViaReggio to travel to Tuscany, Umbria, Florence etc.. but now thinking twice about that. Would a train or busses get us to all of those places without the hassle of a car?

If you want specific info for your transportation decisions for Italy in July, I would suggest going over to the Italy board and asking your questions over there. There are some great people who can help, but give as much information as you can, i.e. where exactly in Tuscany and Umbria you want to go.

If you want to meander through hilltowns, tho, you probably want a car.
