What a wonderful web community! I've been lurking for months - first planning a trip for my husband and I (his 40th birthday) to Rome in the Spring (which we cancelled - long story) and now planning the replacement trip with our 2 boys (ages 8 and 5) this summer - 1 week in Tuscany and 1 week in Rome.
Rome is our favorite city - DH lived there for 6 months when he was 12, and we went again on our honeymoon and 5th wedding anniversary. However, something tells me it will be different this time with two kids!
I'm a newbie myself, to this forum, anyway. My husband and I traveled to Italy 3 years ago with our kids, who were aged 4,6, and 9 at the time. We are planning to return this summer. Are you familiar with the kidseurope.com web site? I purchased the Italy Discovery Journal on it, which is a great resource for traveling with kids. We didn't spend too much time in Rome as it was our first stop and a bit overwhelming at the time. A couple of things our kids enjoyed were a virtual reality type of movie on Roman history and Argentina Square, which is the home of Rome's abandoned cats! They have a small shelter there where you can pet the kitties. Our animal-loving kids enjoyed it. Have a great trip!
