Hi to all of you,

I discovered Slow Talk after a mention of the slow travel movement in Traveler Magazine. What a wonderful find for someone who loves to travel but would rather stay in one place than "if it's Tuesday, it must be Belgium". I did do a tour to China in Oct. that was pretty quick but I stayed extra time in Bejing and Shanghai. The time on my own was great and allowed me to experience more of the life of the people. Also
I found hotels that were more authentic than the ones that the tour stayed at and much cheaper.

I live in Santa Rosa, CA in the heart of the wine country of Sonoma/Napa. I retired in June after being an educator. I have been able to travel a great deal during my summers off and found that enrolling in an overseas college program was a fun way to really learn about a area of a country. I stayed in London to study drama and art, Ireland to study Irish literature and Italy to study art history. I am looking at doing volunteer teaching in a foreign country for two weeks as an addition to a trip.

I am excited to find SlowTrav and joining the discussions.
