Hello there. I'm an Italian American living in San Francisco where I moved to from Rome, Italy. We were in Italy and the region of Calabria in March of this year. This is the most mountainous region of Italy. The remoteness of the hilltowns there make this region one of the few remaining in Italy that remind me of what the rest of Italy was like in the 60s and early 70s. Anyway, if anyone has recommendations for good Agriturismo bed and breakfasts that are good starting points for visiting the Pollino National Park from an eastern approach, we would appreciate knowning about these. From the Tyrrhenian side to the west of the national park, we recommend Orsomarso a clinging hilltown surrounded by dramatic gorges and high peaks from where to begin hiking into the park. Also, Maiera' seems to be built on a vertical hillside with views of the sea as you stroll through quiet alleys dotted with art murals. Any feedback from people who have travelled the area is welcome.
