My daughter, a University of Virginia student, is going for a Study Abroad program & will be at Univ of Siena for 2 months, June & July. She asked me to go along to site-see for 2 weeks together... an offer I could NOT refuse!! She & I will leave mid-May for 2 weeks of visiting Rome, Florence, and Siena. Then alas I must return home.
For over a year I've been researching Italy and came across this gem of a site. Since she recieved notice of acceptance into the summer program 2 weeks ago, I've spent 100s of hours online booking air and looking for apartments to rent.
Now I'll move to the Italy forum to post a few questions. And a huge "Thank you" to all who have shared their advice, travel tips and reccomendations; I'm reading your many pages with a pencil in hand, making notes for our Grand Italian Adventure!
Ciao!

Welcome to Slowtrav, Ladybug01! Martini
You're so right...this is a fantastic place! I planned my first trip to Europe 2 years ago, to Florence and then Paris, and I'd guess that 85-90% of my information and advice came from the very generous and kind-hearted people here on Slowtalk.
If you click on the link below this post, you can go right to my trip report...how a very green newbie survived in Florence and Paris! It truly was my dream trip! Joanna's Dancing Man

There's a huge amount of archived information in past topics and the day-today life of this message board will fill in all of the blanks for you! Ask anything you like...we're happy to help!

Brenda,
Thanks for your response! ...and I love your quotes. I HAVE been reading your Dream Trip report the past few days, how wonderful to read about your adventures. I made many notes based on your comments for where to eat, shop etc. Your visit to San Miniato and hearing the Gregorian chant made me cry. I circled the church on my map and made a note for the 5:30 vespers! I also dream of waking to church bells each morning; I booked an apartment, Antica Sosta dei Viandanti, just a few blocks from the du-o-mo!
I have so much more to read on slowtrav and will probably have many questions.
