Found this site while researching a trip to Umbria in May. Great resource and tips.

Welcome to Slowtrav, Steve...
I agree with you...this site has it all, when it comes to trip planning, and when it comes to warm and generous people, there's none better! Hope you continue to enjoy!

I studied in Perugia, and returned there this summer, after almost 20 years!

Where do you live in Toronto?

Hey Canadians!
I'm new to this board as I mentioned and I have one question. Can you communicated directly to someone or all posts seen by all?
Just wondering.
Steve.

I believe that you need to pay for a "Premium Membership" ($US25) to communicate privately. If you left-click on a member's name within their post (i.e. on the left-hand side of their post), a dropdown menu appears with various options such as "View Steve W's public profile," "Invite Steve W to a private topic," etc.

Some of these menu options are accessible by all, some require paid membership. Some SlowTrav members include contact info or a link to their personal homepage in their public profile though. Theoretically, that would allow you to communicate with them directly without using the private topic feature Smile.

cheers,
Naomi

There are several other Canadians on the board. Offhand, I think of Sheena, BGE and my fellow Montréalaise Anastasia, though there are severla others.

Alas I don't have a premium membership. Hope to soon. Have had a lot of urgent expenses recently, including replacing my locks due to a mugging (!) . (Don't want people to think that Montréal is dangerous - this can happen anywhere). I'm also lagatta on Lonely Planet's board - people can send me PMs there.

Hi Naomi; don't believe I've read your posts before. People from elsewhere should know that the Laurentians (Laurentides in French) are the not-very-high mountains north of Montréal that have long been an area of summer and winter resorts for people here - though of course many people live there year-round.

Hi Lagatta,

I only joined SlowTrav a few weeks ago, though I certainly made good use of some Slow Travel posts prior to a European vacation last year.

Mainly I've been participating on the US vs. UK English message board, which is why you may not have seen me yet. I've come across several of your posts when browsing the boards. I actually lived in the city (Mile-End) up until last summer, when we bought a place in the country.

If anyone's looking for information on the Laurentians/Laurentides region, I'll do my best.

Yeah, I didn't look at that, as Canadian usage complicates that far more still! (Though usually we know both US and UK usages).

You lived very close to me, as I live in La Piccola Italia, just north of the railway viaduct. I have many friends in Mile-End. The strange name comes from railway parlance, for other slow travellers.

Welcome to you too.

Steve, you can find information how to contact other members by clicking here.

There are quite a few Canadian members and many of them live in Toronto and GTA. Not everybody elects to indicate where they live, although the possibility exists, as you can see just below the text of some posts, including this one.
