I am very excited to be a part of the slow travel community. I have read tons of great posts here as a guest but have joined and am really looking forward to getting to know people.
I live in Seattle and I am traveling back to Italy for my second trip this fall. I haven't had a vacation in four years (is that violins I hear in the background?) and am going for three weeks. I have a tour booked in Rome for seven days and I am looking for an inexpensive agriturismo in Southern Italy for a week as well. Then I have to go back to Florence, I ran throught the Uffizi last time and have done some reading and want to go back and take my time. That's all for now.

I am looking to spend a week in Puglia and then I have a week long tour in Rome and then I am going to spend a week in Florence exploring the surrounding areas. I'm heading over there in November and feel like every week is a different vacation. I want a real Italian immersion and I am really looking forward to going to Rome. I've wanted to go there for years.
I went to Milan, Venice and Florence in 2002 and have been working to come back ever since.

Re: area around Florence. We spent 2 weeks just outside Montepulciano in May 2004 - not exactly close to Florence, but a great area. See Tuscan Rambles below - might be of some help.
I am a real fan of agriturismi and really like www.Agriturismo.com. to find nice inexpensive places to stay.
If you're looking for a nice inexpensive place in Rome, you may want to look as some of the convents. We stayed at Il Rosario last September and found it to be like a nice small hotel (except with a curfew).
