I'm looking for some recommendations of places to eat in Sydney. We are looking mainly for seafood since my husband does not eat meat. He prefers to have fish instead of a vegetarian entree also when we eat out. Another option is Italian. I would prefer a restaurant with not too fancy. I took a look at Rockpool and that was a little too fancy for our style. The Boathouse on Blackwattle Bay is sounding interesting. We're staying in the CBD (King & George) so anything in the area would be a plus.

Thanks in advance.

We have had a wonderful meal at The Boathouse on Blackwattle Bay.
Another recommended by friends is Pier in Rose Bay.
The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide awards were announced last night and the editors favourite seafood restaurant was Pier.
A touristy thing we have done is take a ferry to Doyles at Watsons Bay.( www.doyles.com.au ) They have two restaurants at Watsons Bay - On the Beach and On the Wharf.
We ate there on a beautiful sunny day and really enjoyed it. Had a huge seafood platter for 2.
They also have other restaurants but the ferry ride makes it fun.
Good restaurants are not cheap in Sydney but the food is very good.
You may like a trip to The Fish Market at Pyrmont. We were amazed at the variety of fresh seafood and had a great picnic lunch from food bought there.
We are going to Sydney on Thursday for a few days and will ask foodie friends for recommendations for you.

Thanks Fletch. I made the link for Doyles live. I found Pier's site. Great recommendations. Those both look like what I'm looking for. I'll look forward to hearing what your foodie friends recommend.

I've heard that Sydney can be expensive. I'm used to paying about $30-35 AUD for an entree here in Seattle. So I'm thinking $40-45 AUD for an entree to expect something similar. Tetsuya's and Rockpool fixed price meals were a bit higher than I wanted to go. I also don't think we'd be that comfortable in the restaurants.

Thanks also for mentioning the SMH. I'll go investigate their reviews. I've come across the Gourmet Traveller mentioned but I don't have access to the magazine and it doesn't seem to be on-line.

Please keep the recommendations coming. Smile

Thanks for making the link Marta.
The prices won't seem too bad for you as they look about the same as you are used to in Seattle and you will have a favourable exchange rate.
The prices are a little lower in most Melbourne restaurants but they are edging up.

Chinatown is close the the CBD and some of them specialise in seafood. I am talking chinese chinese here and not "fried rice and sweet-and-sour" There are places that do great yum-chas, but I cannot remember the names.

You may be interested to know that a lot of chinese people work and own businesses in the Syney Fish Market and that is also a great place to visit and Eat. Take the Tram there from Central Station and go past Darling Harbour on the way.

BTW. I don't reccommend Darling Harbour for restaurants. Lots of tourists go there, but I regard it as expensive average quality food and service.

For Italian, go out to Leichhardt (Little Italy). If you want cheap and cheerful with character try Bar Italia (we serve coffee - don't ask for skim milk, soy, or decaffeinated). Try theThe Italian Forum but remember that the rest of Norton Street has very good Italian restaurants.

NB. Leichhardt is under one of the approach flight paths to Sydney Airport and you may get the screaming jets. Hopefully the planes will be using another approach if you go their. I would reccommend a taxi to Leichhardt. Ask the driver to drop you off at the forum, but walk down and up Norton Street before going in.

The eBook SBS Eating Guide to Sydney is likely to be a good purchase.
The authors make the wonderful SBS TV series "The Food Lovers Guide to Australia"

Try this place - it's been modernized since I was there, but has a great reputation. Plus, The Rocks is great for after dinner meandering, etc.
