And survived some major-league harrowing, white-knuckling, beautiful drives... (which incidentally make the Gorge du Verdon look like a walk in the park)
Better or worse - hard to say. Certainly different. Aside from Agra at the beginning and Amritsar at the end, this trip was pretty much all in the foothills of the Himalayas. Last time was the flat lands of the Rajasthan desert.
Did some things which are truly unique - such as a visit to the Dalai Lama's temple.
And of all the incredible sites we've now seen in two trips, the most amazing and special moment for me was the evening prayer service and "putting to bed of the book" at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. You'd have to be made of ice and steel not to feel some serious emotions while listening to the music and chants...
By the way, the Indian people, aside from being some of the warmest and kindest on the planet, also have a fantastic, if somewhat dry sense of humor. Check out this road sign posted on one of the countless hairpin turns above the Ganges River valley on the completely insane 20km road we drove 4 times between our hotel and Rishikesh...
My next trip there will be to the south though since I have work in Bangalore. Kerala and Tamil Nadu are in my dream. And hand me some Mysore Masala Dosa for breakfast!
I can't wait to read about your trip. These pictures bring back wonderful memories of when I lived in India. I'm sure your report will be awesome as usual.

Kim, I took a 5-week custom tour of India in Nov. I emailed Kevin and asked if he and others might be interested. He replied that he thought it is a good idea. But, I can't find anything that tells me how to post a trip report. This starts out POSTED: Kevin Widrow's ..... So where and how did he post it? Thanks, Brenda M

Brenda, you get there by begining at this page. Log in, then follow the directions to begin creating your report. (a tip--you may wish to first write onto a Word document on your computer, then copy the text onto the trip report pages)
Can't wait to read it! My husband travels to India for work, and I'd love to tag along one of these days.
- Click on the link "Trip Reports" in the rightmost column of this page, just under the line "Slow Travel Community"; - You will now be on a page with the title "Slow Travel Trip Reports". Click on the button " Create Trip Report". This will take you to: - Registration. This registration is separate from the one you use to login to the message board. You need to key in your email address and a password and then you will be able to log in. - Once logged in, you will get to a page with the title "How to Create a Trip Report"
From here on, follow the instructions.
The best tip I can give you is to first write your trip report in a word processing software (Word, etc.) and save it on your computer. Then, as you submit the trip report, you will able to copy and paste the text from Word onto the trip report format.
I hope this helps, and we would definitely want to have the trip report published!

I usually see you on the France forum and have used a lot of your tips there especially for train travel, so what a surprise to see you here. I too look forward to your trip reports. I am of course from South India originally and was back in India last November (Bangalore, Kerala, Goa). I have travelled in the North including Kashmir and Darjeeling back in the 80s, but have not been back since.
And why am I on this board; because the Euro and British Pound is getting to strong for this Francophile and Anglophile I am exploring other options for a December Family get away.
