Hi Franloop - we were in Egypt in January with Ahmed - he was great but I don't think it will fit your budget.
Have a look at my blog for itinerary suggestions - we certainly covered off the major sites in Egypt (click on the link under my signature).
You might want to have a look at this website - GAP Adventures is a Canadian company specializing in small groups/younger travelers. A friend of mine has taken 3 trips with them and raves.
We also went to Egypt earlier this year with National Geographic - but this tour is probably outside of your budget. The youngest couple in our group were in their mid-40's and it seemed many other tour groups were also in the 40+ age bracket. This is probably due to the time and cost factor - many of us never had the time nor the money to take this type of tour when we were your age.
I did a google search on "college egypt tour" and came up with EF College Break which specializes in tours for your age group. Have absolutely no knowledge of how good/bad they might be, but it might be worth looking into.
The only other thing I might add (and maybe Liz could also weigh in on this) is that you mention you have never been overseas before. Egypt is considered a third world country. For some people this would not be a problem for a first trip - for others it might be a big problem. I had no issue with feeling safe, just the usual travel precautions. However, in many places (sites, airports and other public places), the restroom facilities were really bad. Some of the worst I've ever encountered in my travels. This is something that some people just cannot handle but you need to think about it. Also, there are never-ending vendors who will be constantly invading your personal space. Again, only you know if this will be a problem for you personally. Also, you would need to be cautious regarding drinking water and, possibly, some foods.
I absolutely loved Egypt and would go back again in a heartbeat. But I have lots of travel experiences behind me. Had this been my very first trip overseas at a fairly young age, I'm not sure I would feel the same way. Only you know how flexible and adaptable you are.
i understand SuzanneF what ur saying but this has been my long dream i know its a three world country But i don’t care i plan on going with a tour group I’m not stupid Enough in going alone. Sure it would be easier to go to Paris and stay at the Ritz and i do want to go there but as long as i found a good group then i KNOW I WILL BE FINE!!!

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love ur pics u looked like you had a good time
My daughters have travelled to Asia, Peru and Turkey with them and have been very happy. The guides have been good to outstanding. The age range - in Peru/ Bolivia my 28yr old was one of the oldest, however in Turkey she was one of the young ones. They have a degree of difficulty rating depending on physical ability or cultural difference.

thanks i was looking at the trip 2 egypt and it seems like they have alot of free time with no guide i dont think its right for my 1st trip to EGYPT BUT !!!! the other trips look like fun i want to go to paris too i might look into them !! thanks soo much
Not sure if you are talking about Intrepid with a lot of free time without a guide? The guide is with the group most of the time and any free time (which most of the group like occasionally) has suggestions on what to do. My daughters said if they had any free time they had a choice of activities / sightseeing and there was always someone from the group to do these with. There are only 12 people on these trips, but perhaps you would like something more structured on a bus with 40 people. I don't know what companies have bus tours but googling may help find one, and someone may have been on a tour with them. Jill

We travelled to Morocco with Imaginative Traveller. They have a range of travel styles, small groups & we wouldn't hesitate to travel with them again. We looked at their Egypt tours as well, but ran out of time!
Enjoy!

Just a note on Intrepid Travel trips - all of their trips (except for the Independent trips) are led by a leader (not a guide). While this may sound like semantics, it is an important distinction (and one that Intrepid emphasises to its travellers).
The leader is responsible for organising all travel and acommodation as well as orientating travellers in the destinations they arrive in, providing advice/suggestions on activities and also leading some activities where specified. Some also join groups on optional activities and many organise group dinners, walks etc. As Fletch says, you will frequently find that there are others in your group wanting to do the same activities as you and so you are unlikely to be alone if you don't want to be.
I can highly recommend Intrepid, having travelled with them through China (twice), Mongolia, Russia and parts of Europe. And I've already booked a trip with them to Spain, Portugual and Morocco for next year As someone who enjoys the independent style of travel and would find herself rebelling in a serious way if herded around like many tour groups, Intrepid is the perfect way for me to travel when I want to be with a group of linkminded people and have someone else look after the logistics so I can spend all my time enjoying the places I visit.
