So yesterday we were down at Tuggeranong and we drove to the side of the huge shopping mall and parked the car. We walked into the paddock, which goes clear through to the Brindabella Mountains, and found two groups of kangaroos right away.

The small group of three with the enormous joey was near the road, so we didn't go up close to them. You can see from the female's pouch that this is really an oversized joey - and bits of the joey were sticking out. She just waddled when she moved. I should have saved that picture for my 1000th post joke and told you she was a surrogate for a baby elephant.

The bigger group was under the gum trees and had tiny joeys hopping about and one very large male.

You can see the rest of the photos in my Canberra album.

Leslie - They are such neat looking creatures. Since we have absolutely no animals at all like that in the US, thanks for sharing the photos with us.

This may sound stupid, but is a kangaroo considered a mammal, or a member of the rodent family? Do you know?

I love kangaroos! They are pouched mammals.

And here is another pic of that poor, poor female with that enormous baby who won't move out. I've NEVER seen anything like it.

It taken from quite a distance (paparazzi shot) so as not to spook them) as they were so close to the busy road.
