we will be in Egypt on a cruise next April and just hired a private guide.

It was interesting to read this and the benefits of the guide..also about the food, shopping and camel rides.

We know at some point we will return for a land journey, so I have printed this out for our future travel folder!

Please forgive this (perhaps silly) question, but is Cairo in Africa or Egypt? I ask because of your reference to the smog problem.

I imagine having pools at the hotels was very refreshing after spending time in the hot hot sun. Great idea to rest during the day when the temps were unbearable.

I admire you all for going on such a great adventure, your planning made for a successful trip!

Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the trip report. Cairo is the administrative capital of Egypt and Egypt is in Africa. The Egyptians are quite specific that Egypt is not in the Middle East, but is an African country.
