We are going to South Africa and Botswana next year in February 2008. It seems the recommended time to travel is May to october, but we can only go in February. South Africa seems OK at that time of the year weather-wise, but has anyone been to Botswana In February and are there a lot of rain and flooding? We are planning to book to stay 3 days at NXabega okavango camp and 3 days at Sandide safari lodge. Does any one have feed back on those camps? Besides malaria for Botswana, do we need polio vaccine as i amnot sure when and if we have any. I believe our tour operator is booking with CC Africa. Your feed back will be appreciated. Thanks
Here is a link to the CDC Health information for Southern Africa. It has a list of the recommended vaccines. I recommend that you visit your doctor or local travel medicine clinic for the best information. Also remember to wear neutral color safari clothes. Dark and bright colored clothing attracts tsetse flies which can cause sleeping sickness.
I've visited SA in September so I don't have any experience in the time you plan to travel or in Botswana. We also visited Namibia and we were told similar times for the rainy season.
We did our own planning for SA and used another provider for Namibia. But I have heard good things about CC Africa.
Good luck with your planning.
