I posted this on the North American board but no responses, so I'll try here too.

I usually post on the Italy board, but I have a request about resorts and hotels in Bermuda. We would like to take our teenaged daughters there for a few days around Easter 2006. We were thinking about the Southampton Princess, but the rates have really increased since we were there 5 years ago (without kids). When we were there, it was on a business-related trip for which everything was arranged by my husband's employer, so we never investigated other hotels. However, I know my husband is looking for something that would be close to the same level.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a very nice hotel or resort in Bermuda? We would probably be there about 4-5 days, and the ages of the girls are 15, 16 and 17. They will probably spend most of their time on the beach or near a pool, catching the sun, but someplace where their parents could enjoy themselves and have a nice dinner would be nice. We don't play golf of tennis, and neither do the girls, so that doesn't figure into plans.

Instead of a resort, a home with a pool would also be something we could consider.

Thanks for any suggestions you can provide.

Mary,

I haven't been to Bermuda, but I work with a guy who goes to Grotto Bay every year. He said that although Grotto Bay is not as plush as the Fairmount, it is still a very good resort especially for a family.

By the way, when are you planning on going? I think in winter the beaches in Bermuda may be too cold for swimming.

Steve, thanks for the information.

We would be going in late April. The last time we were there was the first week in May, and the weather was perfect. However, we never actually went in the water, although we did spend a lot of time dining out on or near beaches! So I don't know if the water is warm enough to swim in at that time!

Just reporting back in case anyone else has similar questions. We ended up staying at the Fairmont Southampton Princess -- very nice but not inexpensive,LOL! However,we did not eat all of our meals there, and the restaurants in Hamilton were more reasonable.

Anyone going to Bermuda should try to dine at the Waterlot. It's now owned by the Fairmont, but is not located in the hotel. It's a 300 year old inn specializing in steaks and seafood. The also have a Sunday brunch, which is referred to as "legendary". We didn't try it but did have a special birthday dinner there and it was excellent -- service, food, everything!

In Hamilton we ate at Little Venice, and at Frescoes. Once again, excelent food and service.

The water was too cold to swim in at the beach, but the air temperature was fine so sunbathing was in order. The girls did swim in the heated hotel pool too.
