Hi

I was just in Dubai and as most I was mesmerized by the amazing skyscrapers, the huge malls, the fancy cars, all the gold in the old souk etc. But it seems like there is a dark side to all of this and I found this interesting article about it: http://www.independent.co.uk/o...f-dubai-1664368.html . It is a very long article but it is very interesting and it looks into the work conditions in Dubai for e.g. construction workers, polluted water in the tourist hotel areas etc.

Thanks for posting this, Gard. It is, indeed, a very grim story. I have seen several TV programs about the conditions of guest workers in Dubai, and I have been appalled. Human Rights Watch has been publicizing and protesting the conditions of these workers for the past several years.

I just stumbled across this as I was planning to fly Emirates to Tanzania, stopping in Dubai for a day just to see it, especially the ski slope. The slavery is horrifying, but the ecological damage is even more dire for generations to come. Luckily I had not yet booked. I am changing to either BA or Virgin Atlantic.

Hi

Well, if you do change be sure to give feedback to Emirates Airlines about this. It is important that they get some feedback in order to understand that this will eventually hurt their business.

Crime is now outta control, plus its not reported so u better watch out if u go. They wont report it, try and make a report (like for travel insurance) and they will refuse u have to really push...

Best to just stay away if its regional excitement u are after go to beruit.
