My wife and I have settled on spending a 10-nite vacation in Argentina. We've rented an apartment in the Recoleta section of Buenos Aires in November. We are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary during the trip. I've already bought the tickets on American Airlines through Miami.

We would like to visit Iguazu Falls and spend two-three nights there but we are unsure how we should make our arrangements. I've noticed that most of the airline ticket prices for domestic flights in Argentina are based on buying the tickets there. I've also seen that there are several companies offering package tours, with and without airfare to Iguazu.

I'm open to any suggestions. Should we wait until we get to B.A. and then visit a travel agent there or should we book a deal from this end? What would be considered a good rate? We're not really worried about getting the BEST hotel room in Iguazu, as long as we are comfortable and we get a good tour. Also, what does "half-board" mean in the plans offered?

We'd like to visit the Brazilian side of the falls, but my wife discovered that a Brazilian visa will cost us $110 each. Do we need a Brazilian visa to hop over to the Brazilian side of the falls for a half day?

If we stay two full days in Iguazu, what else should we see besides the falls? Are there old missions that anybody can recommend? What other rainforest sites should we check out?

We are also thrilled to find out that we will be in Argentina during the Gaucho festival that coincides with the Day of Tradition in San Antonio de Areco. Does anybody have experience with that? Is Areco good for a day trip or should we spend the night there?

We are really looking forward to this trip and will be glad to hear any ideas related to Argentina.

Thanks and regards,

Tim Roman

What a great place to have an apartment!

I recommend just waiting 'til you are in BA to make your Iguazu arrangements. I will be glad to suggest some local travel agencies in BA if you'd like; email me at my office address. And yes, you do need a Brazilian visa to go over to the Brazil side even briefly.

How did it go?
When I was in Gramado, Brazil three years ago I wanted to get to the Falls but couldn't. Need a report. Thanks! Thumbs Up
