I think this is Seoul, but I'm not sure where.

You were in Itaewon, Seoul, on the right bank of the Han River.

12 o'clock on the photo, you can see the 63 Building in the distance. The horizontal green area on the photo is the river bank. The fact that Seoul Tower is missing from the photo means you are looking at the 63 building from the other side of the river with your back turned to the Seoul Tower. On the right side of the photo at the top of the small hill, I can see the famous Myeongdong Cathedral in Itaewon.

Do I get a cigar if I got it right? Smile

buddy:
I appreciate your help, but it appears that the cathedral you mentioned is different than the one I took a pic of. The one on the left is a close-up of the one I took, and the right is a pic from a website about the cathedral.

I can't figure out where, but the area with the small houses crowded in appears to be somewhere near Itaewon. It seems that what you see across the river is the south of the river, with rows and rows of apartment buildings.
The church is not definitely the Myongdong Cathedral. The cathedral is in Myongdong, north of Namsan and Itaewon is a village south of Namsan. The tall building seen in the upper part of your picture doesn't look like the 63- Building on Yoido. I'm sorry I can't be of any help.

Jim--

Thanks for the high rez photo.

I googled for Gothic Cathedrals in Seoul and found this one:

It's in central Seoul on a hill. Maybe that's the one in your photo.

The steeples do not appear to be the same.

Jim --

It's hard to tell at this resolution. Can you upload a larger picture? Maybe we can catch a couple of other landmarks from a more detailed picture. I thought there might be a glimpse of a a bridge over the Han River at 2 o'clock on the photo.

Jim --

I went to Google Earth and believe I have located the church. Here's a copy of the google earth location.

The church on the hill is located 1/2 mile southeast of the Itaewon Center. The camera was pointing to the River South (Kangnam). Also, Kyujik is right -- The tall building at 12 o'clock is not the 63 building.

I couldn't find any detail on the church, except that it is not one of the two more famous churches that was mentioned in this thread.

Here's a picture of the church taken by someone on flickr.com: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sheikha_yerbouti/246465791/

Steve:

I finally got the name of the mystery church. It is the Han-Kwang Church, which is Korean Presbyterian. I contacted a realty company, and the realtor got back with me in a few days.
