This year I am foregoing my trip to Italy for a trip to Isaan (Northeast Thailand)for two weeks. Anybody been there, done that?
I will be based in Khon Kaen with a Thai friend and am looking for nice day trips within 100 km. Here is my to see/do list as it stands:
Khmer ruins at Phi Mai (and elsewhere nearby Khorat)
Ban Ta Klang Elephant Village (or is there a closer place to learn about these magnificent animals)since I will not be there for the Roundup.
Chonabot to see the silk industry and buy some
Phu Wiang National Park (and dinosaur museum)
Wats, wats wats...
Any other suggestions?
Is it worth it to visit the Mekong River towns (Nong Kai or NKP)?? The scenery looks stunning there (either place). I know this is outside my 100km zone but...
Same for Loei province? Worth it?
