These are the first destinations of our next trip that will take place in May 2008. Then we will be in Europe, so I'll have to post the rest over there!
It seems odd to do just *part* of an itinerary, but I really do need comments, advice and ideas from the Slow Travs, so here goes:

We will fly to Cairo and spend 4 nights.

Then a 2 hour flight will put us in Turkey. We will visit Cappadocia for 3 days first (depending on the flight schedule which isn't out yet for the summer) and then spend 4 nights in Istanbul.

It's our first time to all these places and my questions are so many I don't know where to begin. So I guess I'll start with Cairo!

If you have been there, tell me what YOU enjoyed the most, what was just so-so, and what was quite ghastly. I crave your opinions. We are looking at Longchamps which is well-located. Do you know Longchamps? If so, ????

I'll check back to see what pearls of wisdom this post has garnered. (I hope!) I'm looking forward to learning a lot before we go.

Sounds like a most interesting journey.

Turkey has some of the friendliest people. Roads are good so renting a car a good option - in Cappa, not in Istambul. Both have enough going on to keep you occupied.

In Cappa consider a "cave hotel", they are actually quite modern and comfy. In Istambul we stayed in the Sultanahmet area and were very pleased.

See our Turkey blog pages. I know Lisa and Garth have posted up a number of pages as well.

Enjoy

I had a really strange visit to Egypt about 30 years ago...I won't get into why it was such, but I enjoyed the Khan el Khalili a lot (the main bazaar). I went only at night, which I think gave it an even more exotic feel.

The Suez Canal was pretty impressive; you might want to consider that too.
