We've been in South America since Jan 2 - but I don't think I posted the link to our blog - we were 3 weeks in Peru, then a month in the Galapagos (rented a house) and now a month in Chile....we're in the Lake District now and are heading to Easter Island this weekend and then back to Toronto.......here's a link to our (horribly self indulgent) blog!

Liz and Richard's South American Blog

The posts are sort of chronological - it's best to go to the month archive and view it that way but it does take some time to download due to the number of pix.

Adios!

Liz, I thoroughly enjoyed your blog. It is brining back so many memories of Chile. Where are you staying in Villarica? If you happen to get up to the Hosteria de la Colina, please say hello to Glen and Beverly from George and Marta. We stayed with them in 2003 and had a wonderful time.

Also are you going to have a chance to go to Huerquique and/or Conguillo National Parks? I loved seeing the monkey puzzle trees in their native habitat.

What a small world!

I'm looking forward to hearing about Easter Island. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Hi Liz:

I'm really enjoying your Machu Picchu blog and can't wait to read up on the others.

Thanks so much for posting your link. And now back to reading . . .

Liz, you have some wonderful photos there and I really like
your layout and lively, informative text.

You saw a lot of the same places we did (though I went in '97).

So, you didn't like blogger.com too much! The price is right :-)

The loading time you mention is due to many photos on one page
before paging is set. On blogger.com you could set it by number of
entries on a page or how many days on each page. Since typepad
costs, I imagine they have that too.

Anyway, love what you're doing with your 'live' travel blog.
You're also a very interesting writer!

Hi Andrys - thanks for your nice comments - can't take too much credit for the writing though - my husband does most of it!

The main reason I went to typepad was the ability to write in a journal format (i.e. oldest post first) - our elderly parents were following it online and the reverse order of blogger was a real problem for them. I found one (very elaborate) workaround for blogger but with inconsistent internet access decided to bite the bullet with typepad - I think it's $35/year so not bad.

You're right - typepad does have the same controls - right now I've got it set at most recent two entries for the home page, but the sub categories are still pretty big. Now that I'm back home I'll play around with the setup some more.

Do you have plans to go back to SA? We loved it and will definitely return - likely to Argentina and other points east of the Andes.

Regards

Liz

Definitely a joint effort though!

I had never thought of that! The obvious preference
for people reading through a trip journal would
be from earliest. Google definitely should have
an option to reverse this for people who prefer that.

While you're on the road, sometimes your readers will want
to read the latest at the top, if they've been keeping up with
it, but that definitely can be confusing. You wouldn't give
people the latest chapter of a book to peruse first :-)

Thanks for clarifying. I really like the setup of your page.
Looks great.

I'm thinking someday I'd like to see the Galapogos
and also Easter Island. And people love Argentina. A
festival of pianist Martha Argerich is there annually and
i'd love to attend it. But I normally travel only once
every 7 years. This trip to Italy only 1.5 years after
travelling to Turkey is an anomaly for me. Retirement's
coming up end of year, so I don't know what the fates will
bring :-) Money would be a good start!

Andrys - here's a link to the Blogger workaround if you ever want to do a reverse order blog (earliest post first)

Blogger Workaround

I didn't bother tackling it - just voted with my feet (and wallet, I guess!) - there are references on Blogger support boards to the fact that Google is working on this feature and may add it in the future.

I'm just working my way through your pix and quasi-blog - lots of fun stuff!

Did you see my restaurant recs for Rome? Here's a link

6 restaurants in Rome

We spent two months there last year - I love Rome!!!!

Thanks for the workaround!

And re the restaurant reviews... YUMMM !!!!

Your pics alone make my mouth water. As for the repetiveness of the menus and food, I like what Mae West said.

Wonderful !"
