I am scheduled to visit Australia for the first time in August. I read somewhere that an entry visa is required. Do Canadians need an entry visa? Help!!!!
I think you need a tourist visa. Here is a link to Australian Immigration. It lists Canada.
Did you have a travel agent help you with your tickets? We got our tickets through a travel agent and the agent was able to fill out the forms on-line. But you can do it yourself at this site. It costs $20.00
You do not have to get your passport stamped. This visa record is stored electronically and tied to your passport number.

Thank you for posting this information. I had no idea Americans needed a visa for Australia. I will get it done sometime this fall as I plan for my home exchange in Brisbane for August 2008.

I don't know if you are planning an extended visit to Australia, but thought that I would bring to your (and others) attention the Australian work-holiday visa. It is available to young people (under age 26, I think) and it enables you to work while you are there. I got one for 12 months, and they kindly extended it for another month. I know that the type of visa is available to Canadians (we are part of the Commonwealth), but it may also be available to Americans (I don't know).
Thanks for the great information. I applied for and was approved for my visa. It's valid for one year and multiple trips. I am all set. It was quite painless and took minutes. Marion, I wish I could get the working holiday visa but I am too old to qualify. bummer. I am so excited, I will be based in Brisbane and I have trips booked to Sydney and Melbourne. I'll let you know how it goes.
