We want to go on a safari near South Africa. We have heard that it can be a good time in January as well as June, perhaps these are times when the animals are on the move. Anyone have any suggestions, or the pros and cons of each time?

Thanks....Ed

I am a bit late getting to this one. January can be extremely hot so depending on your tolerance, can be very unpleasant.

June is winter, The disadvantages are that the days are obviously shorter, and it can get cold (particularly at night). Depending on where in Southern Africa, I would think that Winter does have some advantages in that the grass is shorter (dry season) , and it is easier to see the animals.

Many years ago I remember being told that October/November time was best for places like the Kruger National park - mostly because of a combination of reasonable weather and the grass factor.
